Psilocybin retreat admission and screening is the process that decides who is accepted onto a retreat, who is declined, and why - covering the screening process itself, the absolute medical contraindications that rule a session out with no individual exception, the situations where it is better to wait, and which approach, if any, fits your circumstances.<\/p>\n

Our legal psilocybin retreat<\/a> is a structured, multi-day programme combining medical screening, preparation, a facilitated psilocybin session, and integration support. It is designed for psychologically stable adults without an acute psychiatric condition who are seeking clarity, deeper self-understanding, or renewed connection. It is not a treatment for an active mental health crisis, and not a fit for everyone at every point in their life.<\/p>\n\n

How Does Admission and Screening Work?<\/h2>\n

Every applicant completes a written medical and psychiatric questionnaire, followed by a private interview of approximately 30-40 minutes with a licensed psychiatrist or MD specializing in psychotherapy. The MD, not a facilitator or commercial staff, makes the safety-eligibility decision. That decision has five possible outcomes: accept, accept with conditions, refer for specialist review, defer, or decline. Findings outside the retreat's non-clinical scope, unresolved medication or health risks, acute psychological or physiological instability, or a need for care the group model cannot safely provide all lead to further review, deferral, or decline rather than automatic acceptance. Is Evolute's psilocybin retreat right for me?<\/h2>\n

If you are functioning well by outside measures but sense that something important is stuck or missing, or you would like to deepen your journey of personal growth and development, that is the profile our programs are mainly built for. You do not need prior experience with psychedelics. What matters more is a genuine, self-directed reason for being there, and enough psychological stability to sit with an intense experience without it tipping into crisis.<\/p>\n

Research on psilocybin in screened, healthy volunteers in a supportive setting has documented experiences of substantial and lasting personal meaning (e.g. see Griffiths, Richards, McCann, & Jesse, 2006). Studies like these are frequently cited as the reason this work is taken seriously outside clinical settings.<\/p>\n

Please note our retreats are not a clinical treatment. If you are in the middle of an acute depressive episode, active PTSD, complex trauma that has not been worked through with a professional, active suicidality, or a recent psychiatric hospitalisation, a licensed clinical setting is the right next step. The lithium exclusion is worth explaining, because it is the one people most often question. An analysis of online psychedelic experience reports found that of 62 reports describing lithium combined with a classic psychedelic, 47% involved seizures; in the smaller psilocybin-specific subset, 2 of 6 reports did. None of the 34 lamotrigine reports involved a seizure (Nayak, Gukasyan, Barrett, Erowid, Erowid, & Griffiths, 2021). Self-reported online data is a weak evidence base in general - but a signal this strong, for an outcome this serious, is exactly the kind of risk that we treat as an absolute exclusion rather than something to weigh case by case.<\/p>\n\n

The decision to exclude an applicant is made by a licensed psychiatrist or MD after a written questionnaire and a private interview - never only by self-assessment, and never overridden by commercial staff. <\/p>\n

Of course, there are many cases where the decision is less clear-cut, e.g. an applicant had a history of depression and SSRI intake<\/a>, but now is stabilized and has discontinued medication. This is exactly where the sreening with the MD will bring more clarity on a case-by-case basis. <\/p>\n <\/section>\n\n
